From Shehuo folk shows and face-changing Sichuan opera to costumed parades, Central China's Liyang City Cultural Tourism Zone (Xunxian Ancient City) served up non-stop surprises this National Day holiday in October. Out-of-town visitors poured in, and the local tourism economy shifted into high gear.

Liyang City Cultural Tourism Zone (Xunxian Ancient City) put traditional culture at the heart of the holiday. A single stroll threaded together intangible-heritage folk shows, street-food stalls and hands-on cultural workshops, while night markets for heritage crafts and designer souvenirs invited artisans to demonstrate their skills on the spot. Pop-up interactive performances along the route allowed residents and visitors to take in the night views, appreciate intangible heritage, sample local delicacies, and purchase cultural-creative products—all in a single evening stroll.

Nearby, Dapi Hill Scenic Area hosted lion dances and singing performances during the holiday, allowing visitors to enjoy a new sight at every step.
Officials from the Xunxian County Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism say the goal was to make heritage feel alive—and cool. By "letting culture shape tourism and tourism spotlight culture," they rolled the National-Day festivities, folk crafts, street food and hanfu flash-mobs into one seamless itinerary. The result: a viral-ready mix of flag-waving backdrops, lantern alleys and snack stalls that sent visitor numbers—and nightly receipts—soaring. The Liyang City Cultural Tourism Zone (Xunxian Ancient City) saw its visitor economy in full bloom throughout the holiday.
The official added: "By pairing the holiday with a culture-plus-festival’ playbook—more events, sharper service—we’re giving the Liyang City Cultural Tourism Zone (Xunxian Ancient City) a longer-lasting glow-up, turning it into the kind of place locals never tire of and travelers cross provinces to see."
