Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport scored highest in airport service quality, along with five other domestic and foreign airports in a bench-marking program of Airports Council International.
A total of 348 airports participated in the program, which looks at airports' performance last year in areas such as traffic, boarding procedures, security checks, restrooms and dining.
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport intensified its hygiene efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them was the application of high-technology equipment, such as infrared sensing elevator buttons and disinfection robots, said Xie Bingxin, chief economist of the airport company.
The airport has the most self-service equipment among domestic airports, facilitating travel, and has updated its control systems to boost operating efficiency.
It held cultural events, including art shows and shows on intangible cultural heritage to enhance passengers' travel experience.
The airport has been focusing on improving access for passengers with special needs, Xie said.
It became the busiest airport globally last year, handling 43.77 million passenger trips.
